We celebrate because, since 2009, our work has produced better communities statewide, with increased opportunities to bike and walk safely and happily.
Getting yourself there with human power – walking, cycling, or rolling – promotes personal health and environmental sustainability. Using your own energy for travel contributes to physical and mental well-being and improves your community.
Beyond personal health benefits, active transportation helps address the environmental challenges of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. By reducing reliance on motor vehicles, individuals decrease their carbon footprints and contribute to cleaner air. This shift towards sustainable modes of transport also supports efforts to combat climate change by reducing overall fuel consumption and dependency on fossil fuels. Additionally, and importantly, building walking and cycling infrastructure connects a community and fosters vibrant neighborhoods where people can engage more with their surroundings and each other. In essence, embracing active transportation is not just about personal health but also about creating more resilient communities for everyone.
In 2024, the Idaho Walk Bike Alliance is especially excited to celebrate our 15th anniversary of creating safer communities for Idaho. What started as a journey of a handful of passionate people has grown to a movement that has impacted thousands of lives and provided millions of dollars for Idaho’s communities to be more livable.
We are proud of our work and looking forward to a future, with you as our partner, where Idaho streets and roads are the safest in the nation.
