Recent Travels



The Idaho Walk Bike Alliance team had a very busy summer hosting programs for over 1,000 kids at a variety of events. Executive Director – Ted Hallisey hosted a series of Human-Powered Rodeo events including daily events during the Bannock County Fair in Downey the first week of August. He also hosted library programs in Blackfoot, Lava Hot Springs, McCammon, Preston and Downey – along with a Reading, Roping and Human-Powered Rodeo Event at Cornerstone Learning Hub in Pocatello on Aug 21st.


Charmane Davis hosted a Bike Rodeo in Wendell for over 50 kids and also hosted Safe Routes to Schools PowerPoint programs to teach kids about walking and biking safety.


Tenecia Cooper hosted a Bike Rodeo in Buhl during Sagebrush Days and also hosted classroom bike safety programs for over 100 1st graders in Buhl


Upcoming Activities



“Cowboy” Ted Hallisey will host a Human-Powered Rodeo day on Sept 18th at Pocatello Valley Montessori School – featuring a pair of wellness assemblies, a reading and roping session and three Human-Powered Rodeo activities with keyhole, barrel racing, pole bending and stick horse riding for students during school hours from 9 am to 2:20 pm. Then parents will be invited back for an evening activity and Parent Teacher Organization meeting when students will teach parents how to walk – bike and roll through the rodeo events they enjoyed during the day.



IWBA and Idaho Smart Growth will be hosting a Week Without Driving along with America Walks the week of September 29 to October 5 in Boise and Pocatello. Residents of Boise and Pocatello are invited to enjoy Human-Powered transportation during the week – without driving. Idaho residents in communities across the Gem State are also invited to spend the Week Without Driving. And if you can’t make it an entire Week Without Driving – that’s okay – try a day or two and enjoy public transportation and/or non-motorized transportation from Sept. 29 to Oct 5. IWBA Shoutout for Top Events in Idaho


Make plans to join Boise Bicycle Project on September 28th from noon to 5 pm as Open Street Boise returns for car-free Sunday on Ustick Road. Fun events include; pedal-powered music, bike rodeo, zucchini races, live music and lots of delicious food options. More information at www.boisebicycleproject.org




Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation For Health is hosting the annual Mayor’s Walking Challenge in October. It’s as easy as 1-2-3

  1. Mayors wear an activity tracker and commit to walk every day in October

  2. Mayors earn funds for their community – averaging 5,000 steps per day earns $500 and 10,000 steps per day translates to $1,000

  3. Funds are used for programs and projects that encourage physical activity and well-being in the Mayor’s local community
