United Way of Treasure Valley organized the first Vision Zero workshop in Idaho on January 26th in Caldwell. Led by IWBA Board member Don Kostelec and IWBA supporter Chris Danley, the Vision Zero workshop emphasized this changing paradigm of how we view traffic crashes. Vision Zero was a cultural change in road design developed in Sweden in the 1970s to focus on speed management through design as a proven way to prevent severe and fatal crashes for all road users. Vision Zero states that whenever humans inevitably fail, the road system should not. This veers from our traditional approach to traffic safety which has emphasized perfecting human behavior for nearly a century, but with limited results. More than 25 professionals from the Treasure Valley attended the workshop and an Action Plan will be developed for Caldwell. You can find more about Vision Zero at: https://visionzeronetwork.org/
