Seeking Volunteers for the City of Trees Marathon and Half Marathon on Oct. 9

City of Trees Marathon

We are looking for approximately 7-10 helpers to staff a water station and conduct bike sweeps at the City of Trees Marathon and Half Marathon taking place in Boise on Sunday, October 9. The marathon and half marathon race routes are on the Boise Greenbelt so it is the perfect location for walking or riding your bike to your volunteer post.

Idaho Walk Bike Alliance is a partner of the race so giving your time supports active transportation in Idaho! Sign up now!

See below for volunteer details. Please allow extra time for the required race volunteer check in if you are doing that on Sunday morning. You can also complete your volunteer check in on Saturday; see more info below.

Water Station (3-5 volunteers)
Location: turnaround at 50th St. & Greenbelt
Time: 8:15 to 11:30 a.m.

Half Course Bike Sweeping (1-2 volunteers on bikes)
Location: will follow runners along the half course and report to the finish line (Parkcenter Park) when last runner on the half course is to the Orange Bridge at Parkcenter
Time: 9:30 to 11:45 a.m.
Note: There will be full marathoners that start an hour later and may be on course moving through and not finishing…it will also be good to know from the half sweeper what the numbers look like.

Full Course Bike Sweeping (1-2 volunteers on bikes)
Location: will follow runners along the full course focusing on the second half of the Greenbelt out towards Lucky Peak
Time: 11:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m.
Note: The key here will be in determining on a regular basis how many runners are out and their approximate mile locations. Support will need to follow/inform of the last runners, likely right up to 3:00, although there will be very few runners left out, with reporting to the finish line at Parkcenter Park.

RACE CHECK IN: ALL volunteers are required to check in and get their orange safety vest, stop sign (if needed), and a map detailing your location. Each volunteer may check in either on Saturday, October 8 from 9:00am – 12:00 pm at the host hotel, The Springhill Suites Parkcenter, OR on race morning from 7:00 am until before your scheduled shift at the race start, Parkcenter Park (located East on Parkcenter just past the Red Robin). If you pick up your vest and map on Saturday, there is no need for you to check in again on Sunday. If you are checking in on Sunday, please be sure to manage your time such that you will be able to retrieve your vest and get to your intersection BEFORE the runners are set to be there (that means you need to be there shortly in advance of the time that assigned to you). Parking at the race start is at the intersection of Mallard and Parkcenter (just past the park where the race starts). Please be careful in this area, as there will be runners lined up and on the road.

GETTING TO YOUR LOCATION: All volunteers are responsible for getting to their assigned locations. If you are volunteering with a group, car pooling to the respective location is encouraged.
