GREENWAY FOUNDATION TO HOLD PUBLIC EVENT
Announcement of Trail Build and Dedication of the “One Foot at a Time” Markers
October 13, 2015, POCATELLO, ID – The Portneuf Greenway Foundation is alive and well and is hosting a program and dedication at the Mystique Theater in Chubbuck, Wednesday October 21st, 6 PM. This event is free to the public. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
“This past year has proven to be very productive and profitable, with several large projects funded by grants and construction commencing either this fall or upcoming spring,” said Rory Erchul, President of the Board of Directors. “These projects are large in scope and are vital to the continued growth of the Greenway and realization of the overall comprehensive plan.”
The Greenway Foundation invites the general public, officials, and community members for light appetizers, refreshments and a Greenway program about trail construction, grant awards, the future of the Greenway, as well as a dedication of markers for the “One Foot at a Time” project that has been ongoing for several years.
“A growing Greenway walking and biking trail is a quality of life issue for any community. Not only does a Greenway system provide free recreation and bring families and neighbors closer together, it attracts business and is an economic driver, as well as provides citizens with an alternative, safe means of transportation,” continued Erchul. “The vision set forth before us by like-minded individuals continues to this very day. Along with the announcement of approximately a half million dollars’ worth of upcoming projects, we’re going to make a dedication to many of those people through the “One Foot at a Time” project. We can’t wait!”
The Greenway leaned up in the last few years and cut budget expenses in 2014 by over 80% and is still able to accomplish great things through a dedicated and enthusiastic board of directors, key corporate and civic partnerships, and the continued financial assistance of its membership. The vast majority of donations and membership dollars go directly to the Greenway mission – to complete and maintain trail.
Erchul continued, “We’ve cut budgets, refocused our efforts and re-engaged vital community partners. We’re moving the Greenway forward, completing trails and projects, and keeping positive momentum going from huge recent successes like the Wellness Complex. We owe it to this community and all those that have given of their time and money in the past to continue this mission, and we’ve been very successful.”
The mission of the Portneuf Greenway Foundation is to create a network of bicycle and pedestrian trails throughout the greater Pocatello area to enhance the quality of life for residents of the area by establishing and improving the Portneuf Greenway as a community resource. The foundation is a 503c organization established in 1992 and is governed by a volunteer board of directors and receives no direct funding from the City of Pocatello or Chubbuck for public facilities. Development of the Portneuf Greenway is guided by the Portneuf Greenway Master Plan and a supporting Capital Investment Plan. Though the Greenway Foundation focused on establishing trails along the Portneuf River initially, the broader vision is to connect a comprehensive trail system throughout the Pocatello and Chubbuck communities.
