International Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 5; Schools Across the State to Participate
WHO: Idaho Walk Bike Alliance, Longfellow Elementary School, U.S. Congressman Mike Simpson and Governor C. L. “Butch” Otter
WHAT: Students will be walking and rolling to school along with parents, teachers and community leaders. Shu’s Idaho Running Company and George’s Cycles & Fitness will reward walkers and rollers with gift certificates.
WHERE: Camel’s Back Park to Longfellow Elementary, Boise
WHEN: Wednesday, October 5, 2016, 8:15 – 8:45 a.m.
WHY: To raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling, and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE WITH US: Stop by and assist us in keeping the kids safe on their walk or roll to Longfellow Elementary!
Get involved with an event at your children’s schools, OR create an event for your school! To find out if your children’s schools are participating, visit the registration page and use the filter option. At least 29 other schools throughout the state are already registered. Participating communities include Ammon, Boise, Idaho Falls, Iona, Kuna, Meridian, Nampa, Pocatello and Twin Falls.
